I was driving home from a service call yesterday in South Carolina and heard a great song on the radio. It struck me as something a lot of you might find close to home. It reminds me of a world that has been lost to being politically correct, eco-friendly and ultra safe.
What did we all do before the government stepped in and regulated everything for us? How did we survive?
The song, by a guy named Bucky Covington, is called "Different World" and goes something like this...
"We were born to mothers who smoked and drank
Our cribs were covered in lead based paint
No child proof lids, no seat belts in cars
Rode bikes with no helmets and still here we are.
We got daddy’s belt when we misbehaved
Had three TV channels you got up to change
No video games and no satellite dish
All we had were friends and they were outside, playin’ outside
It was a different life
When we were boys and girls
Not just a different time
It was a different world
School always started the same every day
The pledge of allegiance then someone would pray
Not every kid made the team when they tried
We got disappointed and that was all right, we turned out all right
No bottled water, we drank from a garden hose
And every Sunday, all the stores were closed
It was a different world"
It obviously sounds better when put to music, but you get the idea. It really made me think of how much our country and way of life has changed over the past, even few years. Things were much simpler then, a little more innocent. Granted, I want my kids to wear bike helmets, but it was nice to feel the wind in your hair. My mom smoked and I never rode in a car seat, but as Bucky says, I am still here!

Huge Bucky fan here. Love this song...it takes me on a 3 minute "mental vacation" each and every time I hear it. It takes back to the happy, simple times. It is a great song, and Bucky really is a "real" nice guy. Try listening to Hometown...it is touching also and I'll walk is his new single.
