Virginia Family Tree has started a large project, the indexing of burials for Oakwood Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia. This is a large task and we honestly do not know how many burials there are in the cemetery. We think there are over 16,000 soldiers from the Civil War alone! We started the project yesterday, July 18, 2007, and only indexed 399 records. At this rate it will take years to complete...if we ever get to finish!
This database project will cost hundreds of hours in labor, an expensive endeavor. Once Oakwood is completed, we hope to move onto Riverview, Maury and eventually Hollywood cemeteries. If you have questions or would like to be notified when certain records are available, send us a note at info@virginiafamilytree.com

I am trying to locate information on a baby boy of my grandparents that I believe is buried in Oakwood Cemetery. His name was Weldon Wayne Heath, and it's possible that he was buried around 1933 or earlier. He was an infant. Can you give me any information. Tappingbelle@hotmail.com
There is no Weldon Wayne Heath but there is an infant Heath that died at one day old of a cerebral hemorrhage. The baby died at Memorial Hospital and was buried on November 6, 1933 in a single grave.
Do you have any information on Claudius Ceasar Barnes (died Dec 21st, 1940, and burried at Oakwood)?
am looking for Browning and Ligan (liggan, lygon) in old Oakwood. if my 50 year old memory is right, the plots were not far from the main road (on Church Hill side). these would be from the 1800's as I don't recall neither grandmother saying there was any from the early 1900's but there may be.
Thanks
Sharon Gregory Moore
I have family in Oakwood. They are near the road if memory serves me right. I use to go there with my paternal grandmother while she cleaned the graves. My maternal grandmother says they had a fmaily plot and there was 1 left available. The names are Browning and Ligan (Liggan). There should also be some Gregorys there as well. My paternal grandparents are buried there but on the nine mile road side.
I live in TN but next time I come to VA I plan to take my camera and hit a bunch of cemetery and try to find grave stones for various relatives.
Any information you may have would be deeply appreciated.
Thanks

Hi,
I am looking for any Doeppe’s buried in Oakwood Cemetery.
Thanks for your help,
Barbara
My name is James Wessel and my wife and I are researching her family. Several of her family are buried in one plot and others in several other plots. One plot in particular is of special interest. Lottie Pearl Armstrong was buried in 1982, and her husband John R. Armstrong was buried there around 1968. There are also several uncles in that same plot, Manly Armstrong, George Armstrong, and Preston. We understand that there are other unmarked graves in that same plot. Can you tell us the names, and is it possible to lay markers for them. Are there empty graves within that plot? The original owner of the plot Irene Armstrong (wife of George D.) has now died. Who now owns that plot?
Any help you could give us would be appreciated.
Regards,
James Wessel
I am looking for information about family members buried in Charles Otterly Goode plot. It is in Range 3, section 19, corner 3.
I found the site recently and headstone for Ella Liggan Gooode his wife 2.17/1924 date of burial. There was no marker for Charles Otterly Goode. Found stone for Charles S. Goode also buried in 1924 and then one for Harriet Anne Goode buried 1961.
I'm excited to learn of your project and will be interested in any information that is or will be available about the persons buried in the plot.
Thanks.
